Skiddaw and Blencathra

derwent-2091

Derwent Water with the fells Skiddaw and Blencathra in the distance. Skiddaw is one of 4 fells in England whose summit is over 3000 ft and Blencathra is many peoples’ favourite. The other 3 fells over 3000 ft are Helvellyn, Scafell and Scafell Pike.

I live the other side of Skiddaw so this spot is somewhere I repeatedly visit. Blencathra looks stunning when travelling from Penrith, providing a glorious welcome to the Lake District. The notorious Sharp Edge is one route many people climb to reach the fell’s summit, although I’ve yet to summon up the courage to attempt it.

    • Thank you, Denise. Yes, the tree alone on the shoreline caught my eye, it’s very much open to the elements but continues to thrive against the odds. I’ve planted 5 young oak trees near this location and I’m pleased to say they’re doing well 🙂
